Jose Alvarez has been around engines his whole life. In Mexico as a child he would help his father in the family auto part business. This is where Jose found his niche. In 1978 at the age of seventeen, Jose came to the United States where he began working at Southwest Import Rebuilders (SIR) in Santa Ana. Jose worked at the machine shop for eleven years. He went from a general labor position to a supervisor of crankshafts, rods and flywheels. After SIR, Jose moved on to GEX, located in Baldwin Park. He worked there for five years as a production manager. In 1995, Jose made the most important and hardest decision of his life; he started Jose Alvarez Cores. For five years Jose was self-employed, he bought and sold used engine parts.
In 2000, Jose purchased DPR Machine Shop. Jose’s proudest accomplishment is knowing that his company is recognized worldwide and that there are comments written by esteemed individuals on the internet. DPR has advertisements in the prestigious Hot VW’s magazine and will be mentioned in an episode of Monster Garage. Jose’s family is extremely proud of him and knows that he can do anything.
